Henri drove us to the train station in Offenburg, Germany. From there we took the train to Kaiserslaurten. Fortunately, we had made reservations because the hotel was full. There are many conventions this time of year and without reservations, we would have been SOL.
We took the local bus to Sembach and walked about a mile or so to the base, where guards turned us back. Dennis was disappointed, but not surprised. The AF base is now an army base.
Since we had a four-hour wait for the return bus,we walked around this very small town for a couple of hours. Nothing was open. I sat in the sunshine, bundled in my raincoat and Dennis’s over my legs. Fortunately, I had my Kindle and could read; Dennis had nothing. We made it back to Kaiserlaurten around 7:15.
