Yesterday at the Appalachian Trail Club of Florida, I gave an hour-long slide presentation titled, The Camino de Santiago, the Way of the Stars. My goal was to inform the audience about the Camino de Santiago, to give a glimpse of the indescribable beauty of the Camino, and to encourage members of the hiking club to undertake this adventure. I succeeded on two points. But how can one describe the beauty of the Camino when even the photos do not do justice the to breathing magnificence of the Pyrenees; the vibrant, contrasting colors of the Meseta, or the pastoral serenity of the Montes de León? Throughout my adventure, I feasted on such visual eye-candy. Regrettably, I could only show the audience a beautifully wrapped bon-bon; for them to savor the chocolate, they need to take a bite.
