Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America by Ibram X. Kendi is a must-read book for anyone trying to understand racism and discrimination in the US. This in-depth analysis explains how racist ideas developed and the myths still existing about racism.

This work is comprehensive and discusses the rationales for assimilation, segregation, racism, and antiracism. It isn’t comforting, as it should be. What I found most difficult was learning how those in power manipulated the thinking and outlooks over the centuries. The lies, the phraseology, the political policies used to alienate the races are ongoing.

According to the author, the only hope is for individuals whose eyes have been opened to start changing their own lives and then, from the neighborhood to the city, to the state, to the nation, to the world.

I recommend Stamped from the Beginning to those brave enough to want to learn about racism and discrimination and, perhaps, help make this a better world.
