When I downloaded Soul-Augmented by Kas Smith, I was excited to try an Augmented Reality novel containing markers within the chapters to scan and reveal extra content. The book’s recommended app overtook my Android and locked it up. I was unable to read the supplemental content, but I don’t think it compromised the story.

The tale is interesting and moderately paced, though the characters are flat. The only reason I am rating it three-star instead of higher is that the story is incomplete, seemingly episodic rather than serial. Since the first book is free on Amazon, I don’t mind paying for the second book to complete the story. Better if I had purchased one complete book.

If you like Cyberpunk fiction and don’t mind downloading two books to get the complete story then you might find Soul-Augmented a good read. If you get annoyed with books that proclaim to be part of a series but are not, look elsewhere.
