Without her consent, Miranda Steele’s husband gave her baby daughter up for adoption and then threw her out of her home. Since that day, Miranda has learned to be tough, not to depend on anyone, and to make her own way as she searches for the missing child.

One day, and agency informs her of receiving a letter by a teenager who claimed to be adopted and who was left alone by her parents. She signed the letter “Someone else’s daughter.” When Miranda hears about the letter, she decides to see if this young woman is her daughter.

When approaching the girl, Miranda is chased by the police and stumbles over a dead body. She is taken into custody. There, she meets Parker, the wealthy owner of the Parker Investigative Agency who signs her on as an apprentice. During the investigation, sparks fly, but Miranda fights becoming dependent on a man. Can the two solve the murder? Will Miranda allow herself to fall in love?

The author weaves a good Pygmalion-like story. I liked her use of analogies, unique descriptions, and character development. This is an easy read with some titillating scenes. If you like this genre, I recommend Someone Else’s Daughter by Linsey Lanier.
