Murder in Ancient China by Robert Van Gulik is set in ancient China in A.D. 667. Judge Dee is the local magistrate who investigates crimes . Using deductive reasoning, he analyses the clues to solve the mysteries.

This book includes two Judge Dee mysteries. The first is about the murder of a recluse poet on the lotus pond. Judge Dee’s uses his observations to capture the murderer. In the second story is about a murder on New Year’s Eve. With all the evidence pointing to one person, Judge Dee concludes that he was not the killer and solves the mystery.

I recommend this book for those who enjoy a quick light read.
