Don’t Know Jack by Diane Capri the first book in the Hunt for Reacher Series. I read the story as part of the Deadly Dozen: 12 Mysteries/Thrillers set.

I did not know at the time that I read the book that Jack Reacher is a fictional character and the protagonist of a series of books by British author Jim Grant, who writes under the pen name of Lee Child. In 2112, Tom Cruise played Jack Reacher in a movie thriller. For this reason, I had no expectations at the start of the book.

Two FBI agents, Kim Otto and Carlos Marco Gaspar are sent “under the radar” to Margrave Georgia in search for Jack Reacher by a mysterious supervisor who has sufficient clout to delay commercial airlines for her to catch the plane. This is the first time that Kim takes lead on the case, and she wonders why she was chosen to do so.

Kim has little information to go on and she concludes that Reacher’s file is deliberately thin. She wonders, “Was he dead? In prison? Witness protection? Classified assignment?” and the reader wonders why would her supervisor keep information from her.

The plot has many twists and turns, that I found entertaining. I enjoyed the story development for the most part, though I questioned the purpose of a few scenes. Overall, I enjoyed the story and recommend it; it’s a fun read.
