Goodbye
For the past month, I have been debating whether to continue writing My Musings or retire the blog. Depending on the day, I can list many reasons to keep posting or just as many not to do so.
I started the blog about five ago. Since then, I have provided strategies and support to indie authors, mostly through personal experience. I’ve come a long way and hope that you, my reader, have done likewise.
At the beginning of this year, I started learning from highly successful indie authors: Nick Stephenson, Mark Dawson, Wesley Atkins, Joanna Penn, and others. I encourage you to check out these exceptional authors to see all that they have to offer. Yes, they share amazing information and offer products and classes worth your while.
As I have immersed in their classes and followed their guidelines to success, I realized that I needed to change my focus to achieve my goals and spend more time writing books and then marketing them.
As I analyzed what to change, I realized that even though I loved to blog things have changed. Why?
#1. I’m not posting
This morning, I was surprised to learn that this year I only had two postings. Not enough to show you my writing evolution or to fulfill my commitment to providing you with strategies and support.
#2. I’m too busy
This year, I have published three books and am learning how to improve my sales with advertising and developing a community with my fans. I am starting a monthly newsletter for subscribers to my mailing list. #3. Blogging is now more work than fun
Initially, I loved posting to My Musings. The blog helped me find my voice and hone my writing skills. I enjoyed sharing my author’s experiences as I progressed from a newbie indie author to a more experienced one.

Lately, blogging has lost its appeal. Even though I could “fake it” for a while, I think that you would quickly sense my lack of enjoyment, and that would not be fair to you.
#4. I don’t feel as if I am making a difference
My primary purpose has always been to be an indie author, writing and promoting my books. It has never been to blog about the business of writing.
When I started learning how to be an indie author, many of the bloggers that I was following were encouraging others to blog as a way to develop recognition as a subject authority. Instead of blogging about traveling and hiking, a topic I knew quite a bit about, I wrote about being an indie author. Since I was just learning the field, I only had my personal experience and what I was learning to write about. Now, I suspect that was not enough.
#5. There is a plethora of blogs for indie authors
When I started My Musings, I was so enthused. There were not too many authors writing about the business of writing and becoming an “authorpreneur.” Now there are many such bloggers with more experience than I doing just that. Here are lists to some of them:
