Three sites helpful to writers

I’ve had a busy few days. Yesterday, I finished revising the Kindle version of the book and was ready to tackle the Kindle upload process. I have been dreading doing this because my past attempts have been so frustrating. In hopes of postponing the travail, I choose to catch up on emails. Yesterday’s inbox contained a treasure trove of information for writers.

HubSpot offered a free download of The Internet Marketing Written Style Guide. After reading the 69 pages, I decided to choose a dictionary and write a style guide and glossary. I chose Merriam-Webster.com. I had been using Dictionary.com, but, based on the HubSpot manual, I decided that the Merriam-Webster is preferred. These style guide and glossary are works in process and I hope to maintain them as I continue to find reasons to clarify style or add to the glossary. Until yesterday, I had a very informal style and glossary (bits of info scattered on several sheets of paper or in notebooks. Having them in one place, and on my webpage, makes then accessible and are reminders that I must adhere to them, from this point forward. Additionally, placing this information on my website should help guest bloggers maintain the feel and look of my blog. This effort took several hours but was a long, worthwhile sidetrack, but one I should have done long before this.

iUniverse Writer’s Tips discussed how to approach book bloggers for reviews. See the post Have Bloggers Begging to Blog Your Book for practical step-by-step tips on how to do this. If you have not heard of this website,  “iUniverse Publishing’s Writer’s Tips website is all about helping writers to write, edit and market their books to the highest professional standards.” I first heard about the website on LinkedIn, which has a large writing community and many helpful discussions.

Another helpful site that I became aware of yesterday is The How to Write Everything a Writer Needs Shop. This site is chock-full of information about writing, writing tools, the business of writing and more. It merits a closer look.

I am also using a new tool by FansFlood to help promote the Women of the Way Facebook fan page. I am offering the Tarta de Santiago recipe as a gift for liking the page. See how it works below.
