I read Guaranteed Justice by M A Comley as part of the Deadly Dozen: 12 Mysteries/Thrillers set. The story starts out with the rape of Linda Carter by Graham Gibson, a wealthy playboy. The police do nothing.
After surviving the brutal rape, Linda returns to the apartment she shares with her sister Fiona and their roommate Ami. Fearing that Gordon will attack her sister, Linda decides to adopt a dog from an animal sanctuary run by Lorne Simpkins, an ex detective inspector. When Lorne comes to the house for the home inspection, she notices Lorne’s injuries, and Lornes offers her services as a private investigator. This is the first case for her and her husband Tony’s new PI business.
It is interesting to see how the plot develops as more women come forward as Gibson’s victims. Unfortunately, I found the goings on at Lorne’s animal shelter and her decision to let her father and daughter take over the shelter while she and her husband started the P.I. Business tedious, too convenient, and a distraction from the story.
Though this is the fifth in the Justice Series, I did not feel as if I were missing information by not having read the prior four novels. The story stands on its own and does not require a lot of back fill, which I really liked. This is a good light read.
