Everville: The Rise of Mallory by Roy Huff is the third book in the Everville fantasy series written for young adults. There is a lot of backfill, but I recommend reading the books in order to fully understand the epic struggle.

In this book, Owen Sage visits the third Pillar of Truth to learn how to combat Mallory and his dragon, Rathlar. Meanwhile, the other worlds are preparing for a war that could end of the multiverse, their world as the know it.

As an adult, I did not find this book as engaging as the first two books: the characters were flat and not as well-developed, the dialog did not flow as well, the plot seemed too convenient, and there were quite a few typos and grammar errors.

On the other hand, Mr. Huff’s description of the shape-shifting Alarians is very imaginative as is Owen Sage’s method of saving the world, though his conversation with Rathlar was not very convincing,

There are still mysteries in Everville and 4 Pillars of Truth for Owen Sage to visit. I hope Mr. Huff can take his time with the next installment and delivery a story that is a satisfying as the first two books in this series.
